Jim Heuving,

B.A., M.Div., D.Min, CFRE
Executive Director

It’s a privilege to serve as Executive Director of Joshua House Recovery Ministries. I value this work because addiction doesn’t just break individuals—it strains entire communities.

Recovery doesn’t happen alone. It happens when housing, health care, justice systems, employers, neighbours, and yes, faith communities, pull in the same direction. At Joshua House, we treat collaboration as a strategy, not a slogan. Our Christian faith gives us clarity of purpose, but partnerships and accountability are what turn conviction into results. Every stable recovery bed reduces pressure on emergency rooms, shelters, and policing—making recovery one of the most cost-effective community investments available.

By 2030, I see Joshua House as a stronger, more resilient organization because we own the homes where recovery happens. Ownership replaces instability with permanence and allows us to focus resources on people, not rent. I see 1,000 committed monthly donors providing the steady support that lets the ministry plan, grow, and weather uncertainty. And I see a clear pipeline of skills, training, and leadership development—men moving from recovery into work, mentorship, and leadership in their communities. When stability increases, relapse drops, costs fall, and communities get stronger.

I see donors and funders as builders, not bystanders. When you invest in recovery, you reduce pressure on emergency services, housing systems, and families. That’s not charity. That’s smart community development.

A word about our Founders

The Board of Directors would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Richard and Angie Korkowski, who together founded and steadfastly co-led Joshua House from 2004 to 2024. Through their unwavering commitment, compassionate leadership, and enduring vision, Richard and Angie shaped Joshua House into a beacon of hope and support for countless individuals and families throughout the Fraser Valley. Their dedication has left an indelible mark not only on this ministry, but on the wider community it serves.

We honor and thank Richard and Angie for their extraordinary leadership and the foundation they have built. Their vision will continue to guide and inspire all who follow.

Our Mission

“To help men overcome addiction through Jesus Christ, giving hope and restoring relationships”

Joshua House was formed in 2004 by Richard Korkowski after he had previously worked as a councillor at another recovery home called The Samaritan Inn. Richard felt called by God to open and run his own recovery homes, which he started with literally a few hundred dollars to his name. Joshua House quickly expanded to two houses then a third not long after that. Richard’s wife Angie left her job at the Salvation Army and came aboard as co-executive director. After a number of years of operating between 3 and 5 houses in Abbotsford, Joshua House took a big step forward by taking on The Creek, a remote, multi building facility in Chilliwack. Today Joshua House has The Creek plus 7 homes in the city of Abbotsford with a total capacity of some 101 men, and is generally run near or at capacity.

Joshua House has become one of the Fraser Valley’s largest and most respected recovery facilities from its very humble beginnings.

Our Vision

A total transformation giving lost men new hope and purpose.
